July 7, 2011

A stolen hot air balloon has been reunited with its owner, Gwinnett police said.

The balloon was found around 2 p.m. Wednesday in the 2100 block of Stanley Road in Dacula, Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter told the AJC. The owner picked it up, he said.

The hot air balloon and its trailer were stolen overnight Monday in Lawrenceville.

Between 6 p.m. Monday and 10:30 Tuesday morning, someone made off with the trailer and its contents from the 1600 block of Collins Hill Road NW, according to the police report.

The trailer has "Stairway to Heaven Hot Air Balloon Team" decals on the sides.

Owner Rick Ferrall told Channel 2 Action News that the custom-designed balloon couldn't be replaced. Wife Debi Ferrall put the loss at about $75,000, according to the Associated Press.

The blue and yellow hot air balloon has a federal aviation registration number, the police report states.
