After surveying residents extensively, the Stockbridge City Council passed an ordinance at its Nov. 12 regular meeting to address parking on city streets.

The council replaced an entire section of the city’s municipal code with a number of new provisions, making it unlawful to park a vehicle on any street and alley in the city where signs are posted to prohibit parking. A wide range of criteria are specified in the new ordinance based on the width of the street. Violators of the ordinance, in addition being subject to having their vehicles towed, can be fined $100 for the first offense, $250 for the second offense and $500 for each violation after that. Waivers can be obtained from the city in certain situations for special purposes and a limited time frame.

A city survey conducted in recent months drew more than 400 responses that provided feedback leading to the adoption of the ordinance.
