Stockbridge City Councilman Elton Alexander plans to beautify his Henry County community with a day of service during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

Alexander and supporters will work from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Jan. 18 to improve Stockbridge’s curb appeal, including planting trees. Workers will meet in the parking lot of Walmart at the intersection of Ga. 138 and North Henry Boulevard.

The event is a part of an ongoing initiative by Alexander to participate in the Keep Stockbridge Beautiful campaign.

"A renewed pride in our beloved community runs deep among our residents following our social struggle to keep Stockbridge together, " Alexander said in a statement.

"The Keep Stockbridge Beautiful program picks up the mantle while understanding the importance of beautification to our citizens.”

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes to the event. It is open to all residents, including churches and sports teams, Alexander said.
