Legislation authorizing Stockbridge to call for a special election to fill the mayor’s seat passed the General Assembly and was signed into law March 31 by Gov. Nathan Deal.

State law requires the call for election to be given 90 days in advance, meaning the special election must be held in November to coincide with the general election, according to Henry County’s election office. City Hall officials have stated that qualifying will likely take place in late summer.
