The Stockbridge City Council passed an ordinance amending its code regarding short-term rentals of residential properties in the city, adding various registration requirements and standards as well as a number of restrictions.
The vote at the July 9 regular council meeting also approved the levying of an 8-percent tax on short-term rental stays, the same as the city’s hotel-motel tax.
City officials said that homes in Stockbridge listed on AirBnB have been rented and used as “party houses” by out-of-town guests, making them at times a nuisance to their respective neighborhoods. Such rentals must be at least three nights but no more than 14 under the new ordinance.
