Georgia's Department of Natural Resources will receive a $2.7 million federal grant towards its floodplain mapping program.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency grant will help improve existing flood insurance rate maps and flood risk data used by local communities for planning and redevelopment. State officials are working on updating the information for several watersheds throughout Georgia, including the Etowah Watershed, which contains several metro Atlanta counties.
