A $4,824,000 contract for acquisition of right-of-way with the Georgia Department of Transportation has been approved by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners for the third phase of the South Barrett Parkway Reliever.
GDOT will reimburse Cobb County 80 percent of the eligible right-of-way funding expenditures for about $4,824,000, according to Cobb Department of Transportation Director Erica Parish.
Funding for Cobb’s 20 percent share of costs - $1,206,000 - is available from the 2016 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
The purpose of this project, along with the previous two phases, is to provide mobility and congestion relief to Barrett Parkway.
This project will provide an alternate route for drivers traveling to the highly developed office and commercial areas at Interstate 75 as well as for those motorists accessing I-75 at Barrett Parkway.
With a total projected length of about 0.81 mile, this third phase consists of the extension and widening of Shiloh Valley Drive/Greers Chapel Drive across I-75, terminating at the intersection of Roberts Court and Barrett Parkway.
Proposed improvements include construction of a bridge with no interstate access over I-75 and the addition of a roundabout at Greers Chapel Drive and Roberts Court.
