A man implicated in the September murder of Spelman student Jasmine Lynn was arrested last week for a stolen gun and drug possession, authorities said.

Clarence Carter was caught by Union City police with more than an ounce of marijuana and a stolen gun after being pulled over last Tuesday for driving without a seat belt and with expired tags.

He then tried to run from police but was quickly caught, authorities said.

During the murder trial against Devonni Benton in March, Benton told jurors his friend Carter was the actual gunman who shot wildly into a crowded Clark Atlanta University campus the morning of Sept. 3.

Benton was later convicted of the charge and sentenced to life.

Carter took the stand during the trial and denied ever having a gun.

He’s being charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon during commission of a crime, theft by receipt, obstruction, and driving without a license or insurance.

Carter is being held on $28,000 bond at the Fulton County jail.
