The $332,484.44 purchase of a new reading intervention program for special education students was approved Aug. 13 by the Henry County Board of Education. Money for the System 44 purchase will come from IDEA (Individual Disabilities Education Act) funds, according to district staff. The program was described as “a foundational reading intervention program designed for the most challenged struggling readers in grades 3-12,” and according to a staff report it will be implemented with students for whom other reading programs in use by the district are not effective.
