The Forsyth County Board of Voter Registrations and Elections has called a special election to fill the unexpired term of District 2 County Commissioner Rick Swope, who resigned at mid-month due to his taking a new job that restricts holding public office.

The election is set for Nov. 7, the same day that municipal elections will be held across Georgia. The elections board set qualifying for 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 30 and 31 and 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 1. The qualifying fee is $1,047.02

Elections supervisor Barbara Luth said the election is designated as non-partisan, although candidates can put their party affiliation on the ballot. She added that if only one person qualifies and no write-in candidate emerges, the election will be called off.
