A special election will take place this November for the Henry County tax commissioner’s position, and the Board of Commissioners voted at its regular meeting to approve the qualifying fee for that race.

By law it was set at $2,533.76 which is three percent of the lowest possible salary for the position ($84,458.82). Former tax commissioner David Curry, who served since 2009, resigned a few months ago when appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp to head the Georgia Department of Revenue. His deputy, Michael Harris, assumed the role of tax commissioner as permitted by law until the special election to fill Curry’s unexpired term, which runs through the end of 2020.

Qualifying for the race is later this month.
