A Spalding County Sheriff's deputy was arrested Monday night, charged with methamphetamine possession.

An internal investigation was launched two weeks ago into allegations that Alvin Copeland Gregory, 27, was dealing and using meth, said Spalding County Sheriff Dee Stewart. Gregory, of Griffin, was not charged with distributing the drug but was found in possession of meth by the arresting officers. He's also charged with violating his oath of office.

Gregory was taken to the Spalding County Jail, where he had been employed as a detention officer since 2007, a sheriff's department spokesman said. The deputy was fired following his arrest.
