A 14-year-old is in the hospital after being shot Saturday evening in southwest Atlanta, police say.

Atlanta Police Sgt. Warren Pickard said the teen was standing near Bishop Bros. Auto Auction, on Metropolitan Parkway near Avery Road around 5 p.m. Saturday when someone opened fire, hitting him in the stomach. He was taken to Grady Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Pickard said police were searching for the suspect, who fled after the shooting.

No further information was available about a motive for the shooting or whether the teen was a target.
