South Fulton said the city is getting a new grocery store in less than a year.

City officials on Thursday “broke ground” for the new Publix at 5829 Campbellton Road in Sandtown Crossing, near Camp Creek Parkway and Riverside Road.

The Florida-based Southern grocery giant’s 67,000-square-foot store will feature a pharmacy and in-store dining.

The store is expected to open in fall 2020, according to a news release from the city.

Thursday's ceremony came four months after Publix announced the new store.

South Fulton Mayor William “Bill” Edwards, City Manager Odie Donald II, state Rep. Roger Bruce and state Senator Donzella James along with council members Joe Carn, Helen Z. Willis, Catherine F. Rowell and Carmalitha Gumbs were photographed by the city breaking ground.
