Specializing in Southern cuisine, South Cobb Diner opened recently in downtown Austell.

“Already we’re getting a lot of interest from commercial brokers for the downtown area. You’ll see good things come out of Austell now,” said Jim Graham, the city’s director of Community Development and Parks Departments.

This companion restaurant to West Cobb Diner at 3451 Ernest Barrett Parkway in Marietta is in a city building at 5850 Love St. that is being leased by the restaurant. The city spent $229,000 to ready the interior with new plumbing” and five air-conditioning units, Austell Mayor Joe Jerkins said.

Funding is from interest earned on the city’s $5 million Norfolk Southern railroad settlement when the Austell intermodal facility was constructed at U.S. 278 and 6000 Dr. Luke Glenn Garrett Jr. Memorial Highway.
