The city of Snellville will hold public hearings on its millage rate. The rate will remain unchanged but will be 6.85 percent higher than would have been required by state law if the budget had not been increased.

The millage rate will not raise property taxes, city spokesman Brian Arrington said. The millage rate refers to how much tax a property owner pays on each $1,000 of at their home's assessed value

The city recently approved a $13.4 million budget, a $2 million increase from the 2017-2018 budget, the city said.

The police department's budget is rising by $192,264 to $4.9 million. The city budgeted $696,000 for street resurfacing and $650,000 for stormwater projects. Read more about the budget here.

Under state law, the city is required to schedule at least three public hearings so the public can express opinions about the millage rate. Those hearings have been scheduled for 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on June 28 and 7:30 p.m. on July 9. All will be held at City Hall, located at 2342 Oak Road.
