The Atlanta Regional Commission has awarded the City of Smyrna a $100,000 Livable Centers Initiative study grant.

This grant supplements an existing LCI plan for Smyrna to assist with further study of Spring Road and the impact of traffic and economic growth on the future home of the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Park. Smyrna is one of nine metro Atlanta communities awarded these ARC grants this month, totaling $800,000.

Also, $12 million in transportation funding has been given by the ARC to 11 other communities that have completed their LCI studies. Since LCI began in 2000, 112 metro Atlanta communities have received more than $197 million in planning and implementation grants. LCI communities cover less than four percent of ARC’s land area but contain seven percent of residential development, 29 percent of commercial development and 69 percent of office development. Funded with federal transportation dollars, the LCI grants provide 80 percent of funding for each study or transportation project with the community making a 20 percent match.
