Smyrna on Wednesday razed an 1850-era house it owned at 5811 Oakdale Road. The city bought the Hooper-Turner house about 10 years ago and was unable to find a buyer to renovate the house. Efforts by preservationists in the River Line Historic Area also fell short of saving the house that was on the Cobb County Historic Register. The group had plans for a community facility or visitor center. The property is located in the center of a line of Civil War trenches and forts west of the Chattahoochee River.
