Smyrna city officials have opened the Jonquil City Historical Trail with a mobile app.

The Smyrna Arts and Cultural Council, part of the city’s Strategic Vision Plan, also assisted with the October launch of Phase 1 of the trail’s 20 sites, according to an SACC statement.

This electronically-accessed historical trail provides visitors with historical images and narratives identifying the chief landmarks in Smyrna’s historic downtown.

This information is available through a city-sponsored online mobile application that can be accessed by cell phones, computers and other electronic devices.

The concept and the historical content of the trail were generated by the SACC History Committee, co-chaired by Smyrna historian William P. Marchione and architect/artist Shaun Martin.

The mobile app was constructed, funded and will be maintained by the city of Smyrna.

The long-term objective of the Jonquil City Historical Trail is to integrate history, historic preservation and the arts through a multimedia celebration of Smyrna’s history.
