Longtime Smyrna Public Works employee Frank Martin has been named the new Public Works Director.

He was appointed unanimously on Oct. 15 by Mayor Max A. Bacon and the City Council.

Martin has been a Smyrna employee for 32 years.

Previously, he was the interim, then assistant Public Works director.

Martin began his career with Smyrna as a crew worker in the Water/Sewer Division and later as an equipment operator.

He also served as the Streets supervisor until he was picked to become the assistant Public Works director in 2000.

Following the unexpected retirement of Public Works Director Scott Stokes in July, a search was conducted to fill the position with qualified candidates going through three rounds of interviews.
