Smyrna mother charged with murder in girl's death

June 16, 2012

A mother was arrested and charged with murder after a severely malnourished and neglected girl was found dead Friday in a Smyrna home, Cobb police said.

Ebony Berry, 38, of Smyrna is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on charges of murder and first degree cruelty to children.

Police and emergency personnel responded to a residence on Concord Road around 1:30 p.m. after a 911 call, Cobb police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman said in a news release.

They found a deceased juvenile female when they arrived, and she was severely malnourished and neglected, investigators determined.

The other children in the home, all younger than the dead girl, were in good condition and released into the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services, Bowman said.

Anyone with information on the case should call investigators at 770-499-3945.
