Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon will give the Mayor’s Education Awards from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 16 in City Hall Council Chambers, 2800 King St., Smyrna followed by the regularly scheduled City Council meeting.

A strong advocate for education, Bacon created the Mayor’s Education Awards in 2006, according to a city statement.

The awards program is held twice a year in May and December in the Council Chambers.

This program may be seen live on Charter Cable channel 181.

Bacon and the City Council recognize an outstanding student, staff member and volunteer from Smyrna area schools - public and private.

Recipients are honored for their academic achievement, dedication and volunteer service.
