The Smyrna City Council voted 7-0 Monday to hire Mike L. Jones as the city administrator.

A U.S. Air Force veteran and a registered professional engineer in Georgia and Alabama, Jones has been the city’s interim city administrator since August 2015.

Previously, he served as the county administrator for Paulding County since 2009, a consulting civil engineer in the areas of water, sewer, solid waste, transportation and land planning and an adjunct professor in Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics at Southern Polytechnic State University (now Kennesaw State University).

Jones earned a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology from the Southern College of Technology in Marietta and an Associate of Science degree in Bioenvironmental Engineering Technology from the Community College of the Air Force.
