Smyrna’s newest police officer has three primary missions:

1. Identify illegal narcotics

2. Track humans

3. Continue being a very good boy

Max has become the city’s sole K-9 dog, the department announced Tuesday. He is a chocolate Labrador born in October 2016.

He succeeds Paco, who retired.

Max will be paired with officer Travis Seller, who has been on the force four years.  The city said Max being a friendly breed means he will also “play a vital part as a community relations tool.”

He got the name from students at Belmont Hills Elementary School who held a naming contest last fall when the department bought Max.

The cops are bringing Max to meet the students Tuesday and are throwing them a pizza party.
