Extended construction hours have been approved for the Jonquil Village Redevelopment Project on Atlanta Road at Spring Road in Smyrna.

The Smyrna City Council voted Monday to grant this request by Plateau Excavation of Austell to lengthen its work hours from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and allow a variance to the city’s noise ordinance.

Councilwoman Teri Anulewicz said she has talked to many residents who reside near the project and told her they want the extended hours so that the project can be finished by the end of this year.

Extra work time will amount to one and a half hours Mondays through Fridays and three and a half hours on Saturdays. These additional hours will help the company make up any production lost during peak traffic flows or during inclement weather to stabilize the site and reduce any erosion control problems. Plateau Excavation Project Manager Shane Hall said in a March 25 letter to Community Development Director Ken Suddreth that he estimates the grading portion of the project to be completed in six months.
