Smyrna Council candidates qualify

Five candidates qualified March 5-7 for the Ward 6 post on the Smyrna City Council that was left vacant by the resignation of Doug Stoner.

They are Alex Backry, a retiree; Shaun Black, an information technology employee; Tim Gould, a small business owner; Idella Moore, a retiree and Brant Suddath, a senior director of Human Resources.

The election will be held on May 22.

April 24 is the voter registration deadline for Smyrna residents at mvp.sos.ga.gov.

Early in-person voting will begin April 30 and end May 18.
