The Smyrna City Council in a 3-2 vote Monday approved spending $1.8 million to buy a 100-year old house on 3.55 acres at 3080 Atlanta Road. The city will use money from the city’s unassigned fund balance to buy the property from the estate of Raymond Reed. Council members said the house could be used for arts, concerts or as a genealogy and special collections annex for the Smyrna Library. Council members Teri Anulewicz and Charles Welch said the purchase would save the house and property from private development.
