The Smyrna City Council voted recently to buy seven new police cars.
One equipped Ford Explorer will be used for the deputy police chief for $30,332 from the state asset forfeiture account.
His vehicle will be reassigned to an administrative officer to add an extra marked patrol vehicle in the patrol fleet.
The other six equipped Ford Explorers will cost around $239,022 from the city’s 2017 Vehicle Replacement Fund.
These six cars will replace six Crown Victorias that are going out of service due to age, mileage or upon guidance from the fleet manager.
All of the vehicles will be bought from Wade Ford.
Diversified Electronics will supply and install the emergency equipment for the deputy police chief’s car.
The other six will receive all necessary equipment, including camera systems, from not only Diversified Electronics but also Public Sector and Grafix.
