A new daycare facility and a retail building were approved 7-0 Monday by the Smyrna City Council.
Blastoff Construction Inc. will develop the 12,350 square-foot Legacy Academy and the 4,000 square-foot retail facility on 1.9 acres of vacant land at 4390 South Cobb Drive.
During the public hearing, a few residents expressed concerns about traffic safety, property protection, privacy and tree preservation.

With 12 locations in Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina and Texas, Legacy Academy will be open 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for 169 children ages six weeks to 12 years.
Originally, this property was rezoned on April 16, 2007 for the construction of a 19,200 square-foot retail center with three one-story retail buildings.
However, the site has remained vacant due to the economic recession.
