The Smyrna City Council approved May 7 the temporary closure of Riverview Road between Nichols Drive and Freeman Parkway May 18-20 for the final relocation and elevation changes to the roadway for the Riverview Landing Project.
Backup dates will be June 1-3 - also from 7 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Sunday to raise the roadway above the floodplain.
The long-planned project along the Chattahoochee River will include a park and hundreds of new homes.
For about a decade, officials with Jamestown Properties had hoped to build a $300 million mixed-use development on 82 acres, including more than 1,600 residential units with office and retail space.
Then Jamestown Properties sold the property to Ardent Companies which has downsized the plan to include about 600 apartments, townhomes and detached houses and 3,000 square feet of commercial space.
Of the 82 acres, 12 acres may be deeded to Smyrna by Ardent for a public park.
