Several changes have been made to regulations of Smyrna parks.

The Smyrna City Council voted 4-2 Feb. 19 to approve these restrictions.

Opposed were Councilwomen Susan Wilkinson and Maryline Blackburn with Wilkinson, chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee, requesting more time for review.

Supporting the changes were Councilwoman Andrea Blustein and Councilmen Ron Fennel, Derek Norton and Charles Welch.

A council vacancy has been left with the Feb. 16 resignation of Doug Stoner who will be running as a Democrat for the Public Service Commission for the vacated post by Stan Wise.

Park changes are:

No alcoholic beverages may be sold, possessed or consumed in city parks except at closed functions, city-sanctioned events or in designated areas.

Also banned from city parks are bikes, sleds, scooters, skateboards and children’s toy vehicles in addition to the already-banned cars, trucks, motorcycles, go-carts, ATVs and Segways.

In case a sign does not designate closed hours, it is assumed the park is closed between dusk and dawn.
