Have you ever gotten a painful shoulder sunburn from a concert or festival on Marietta Square?

Well the JRD Foundation now has your back — literally.

The Marietta City Council approved at its Wednesday meeting a motion allowing the melanoma research group to donate sunscreen dispensers to the Square.

The vote came a couple days before the 14-year anniversary of the death of Jamie Rabinowitch-Davis, for whom the JRD Foundation is named.

The 34-year-old died July 14, 2003, from a melanoma brain tumor, according to the Marietta group's website.

Since then the group, founded by her sister, has worked to raise research funds and spread awareness.

A city spokeswoman said the dispensers should be installed by Friday, July 21. The motion did not say how many dispensers were donated or how many would be installed.

If you went to Glover Park on July 4, one of the dispensers was by the city’s tent, the spokeswoman said.

The approved motion also allowed for “possible future installations at other city parks” but provided no further details.
