A recurring sinkhole on a road near Chastain Park continued to inconvenience residents and motorists in Buckhead on Monday.

The sinkhole developed on West Wieuca Road near Dudley Lane for the second time Friday. The first one in the area, on Aug. 11, was about 35 feet deep, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The area remained closed to thru traffic Monday and detour routes are posted.

“We are working with the contractor to determine the cause of the sinkhole so a permanent repair can be done,” Valerie Bell-Smith, a spokeswoman for the Department of Public Works, told Channel 2.

The patience of area residents is appreciated, she said.
