The skeletal remains of a teen or young woman were found Sunday afternoon in Lawrenceville.

Around 1 p.m. Sunday, Gwinnett police were notified and responded to the discovery near the block of 1400 Azalea Drive. The Homicide Unit and Crime Victims Investigations Unit said in a news release that this is a "suspicious death" investigation.

Police said they believe the remains are of a black female likely to be between 16 to 30 years old.

A T-shirt was found with the remains, and police said it appeared to be from a 2008 memorial function for the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The words read in part, "BELOVED COMMUNITY MARCH, MEMPHIS, TN." and "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr." and "In rememberance (sic) there is life/A night of storytelling/1968--2008."

Anyone with any information on the case is asked to call Gwinnett police at 770-513-5300.
