A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 9 at 2051 Lower Roswell Road on the site of the former East Marietta Library inside Sewell Park. The library actually has been open to the public since Dec. 4.

This 28,000-square-foot facility includes unique children and teen spaces, study rooms, recording studios, a conference room, a digital-maker space commons, a community room, an art gallery, art classrooms, an outdoor amphitheater and a black-box theater.

This joint-use facility of the Cobb County Public Library System and Cobb County PARKS was funded with $8.6 million from the 2016 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax and $2 million from the Georgia Board of Regents. The design-build contractors for the $10.6 million Sewell Mill project are Batson-Cook Company and CAS Architecture.

Library and PARKS officials are reaching out to organizations – such as public and independent schools and arts organizations – throughout Cobb County as part of a strategy to offer creative space for the community.
