A 19-year-old Senoia man was killed Monday when the pickup truck he was driving overturned in Fayette County, authorities said.
Elijah Kent Bishop was driving his 1985 Toyota eastbound on Morgan Mill Road near its intersection with Bankston Road near Brooks about 9:20 a.m., according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
For reasons unknown, the truck went off the right side of the roadway. Bishop attempted to steer back onto the road but overcorrected, police said. The truck overturned as it skidded across the road and came to rest in a ditch on the left side of the road.
Bishop was not wearing a seat belt and he was thrown from the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. The driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The sheriff’s Traffic Enforcement Section is investigating the accident.
