Sally Yates is now the U.S. Attorney in Atlanta overseeing federal prosecutions across North Georgia.

Late Wednesday, the U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed Yates, who was nominated by President Barack Obama in December. Yates had been serving as acting U.S. attorney and once headed the office's fraud and public corruption unit.

Yates has long been considered one of the best trial attorneys in the U.S. Attorney's Office here, focusing largely on corruption cases. In the 1990s, she obtained convictions in the explosive case enveloping city officials and corruption at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. More recently, she obtained the hard-fought conviction against former Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell.
