Searching for Meredith Emerson
More than 100 searchers --authorities, family members, friends and strangers-- assembled at Vogel State Park to search for 24-year-old Buford resident Meredith Emerson who has been missing since New Year's Day after she went hiking with her dog Ella.

!["[Emerson] struggled to live," Keenan said. "She's very much a hero."](https://images.ajc.com/resizer/v2/Q2H5LERJZBS2UAUXHLRRQ472XU.jpg?auth=938cdf153a400da66971059fa99168108b2fe95517d7ec39bfe60df8b62d2819&width=3840&height=3534&smart=true)

!["We are receiving information and we have talked to a lot of people," Cagle, the GBI special agent in charge of the case, said at a news conference on Friday. "We have confirmed that [Hilton] was there."](https://images.ajc.com/resizer/v2/HWJQDUEATEFON34VNJEJBOHHD4.jpg?auth=7715fb1111cb4e0b1a601d90618896a080057c9356bbba8c5b7fd4e82d73280e&width=3840&height=2557&smart=true)
