The Cherokee County Board of Education this week will consider several options related to a proposed new/replacement administrative services building in downtown Canton.

Superintendent Frank Petruzielo is recommending that two existing district buildings on its downtown campus be demolished to put up the new central office building. They are a former grammar school and a former cotton mill office. The agenda says the item will be withdrawn, however, if a different option for the property’s approved.

Board members and district officials have also been examining several other options, including a bid by the Cherokee County Historical Society to buy the property, a possible land swap with the city of Canton, and incorporating at least portions of the existing historic buildings into the new offices.

The board meeting is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Canton High school board auditorium, 111 Academy Street, Canton.
