As Sandy Springs continues to look at ways to revitalize the city’s aging north end, it has invited the public to an open house later this month to hear a short presentation followed by a “visioning” session.

The open house is to be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the Sherwood Event Hall, 8610 Roswell Road.

Announcing the open house in its July e-newsletter, Sandy Springs cited Mayor Rusty Paul's State of the City address, in which he said creating a healthy retail environment and affordable housing in the north area would be a top priority.

Earlier this year, the Sandy Springs City Council formed a 12-member citizens’ task force to develop a vision and plan for the north end.

The area is a candidate for redevelopment because of low-density rental housing typical of the 1960s and 1970s, a poorly performing retail environment, and disconnection from other parts of the city that are doing well, staff said in a report to the council. A final report is due January 2019.
