Sandy Springs police are investigating a cemetery vandalism case.

A maintenance worker discovered the damage last week at the Powers Family private cemetery behind an apartment complex on Roswell Road.

Police said that a casket was dug up on the property and that several headstones were damaged as well. Members of the police department’s criminal investigations division reburied the casket, which they said had not been opened. They said that two shovels and an empty bag of potato chips were left at the scene.

Police hoping for a break in the case said that anyone providing information is eligible for a cash award of up to $2,000 from Crimestoppers of Atlanta.
