A household hazardous waste collection day will give Sandy Springs residents a safe way to dispose of paints, chemicals and other common hazardous materials.

The event, sponsored by the city and Keep Sandy Springs Beautiful, is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at 600 Morgan Falls Road – the former Worldpay parking lot across the street from North Springs United Methodist Church, officials said.

The event is for Sandy Springs residents only – no businesses or contractors – and pre-registration is required. For information and to register: www.knfb.org.

Accepted items will include paints (up to 10 gallons), solvents, cleaners, aerosols, herbicides, pesticides, motor oil, anti-freeze, pool chemicals, propane cylinders, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, items containing mercury, and cooking fats, oils and grease.

Not accepted: electronics, medical waste, needles, ammunition, pharmaceuticals and non-hazardous items. Electronics are accepted at the Keep North Fulton Beautiful recycling center during normal business hours.
