A Sandy Springs church that wants to expand one of its buildings and improve its parking lot has been allowed to do so by the City Council.

The council approved with conditions a request for a conditional use permit for the project by Rivercliff Lutheran Church, 8750 Roswell Road.

Built in 1970, Rivercliff Church has a single-story sanctuary building of about 10,300 square feet and Strickert Hall, a single-story building of roughly 12,000 square feet, on a 6.4-acre site, according to a staff report to the council.

The church plans to expand its sanctuary building by 1,023 square feet to accommodate a larger lobby; construct 10 additional park spaces; add a drop-off lane with covered canopy, and update the ADA parking to meet code, staff said. No additional seating in the sanctuary is proposed.
