Sandy Springs is working with MARTA on a $7.8 million project to ensure walk-up access to transit in the Roswell Road corridor from the Atlanta city limits to I-285.

The Sandy Springs City Council approved a memorandum of understanding with MARTA in which the transit agency will be the pass-through entity and provide project oversight for about $6.2 million in Federal Transit Administration funds.

Sandy Springs will contribute a roughly $1.6 million match and execute the project. Estimated costs are $622,500 for engineering and design fees, and about $7.2 million for right of way, utilities and construction.

“Pedestrian elements to be installed include a minimum six-foot sidewalk, ADA-compliant curb ramps, accessible bus stop pads, and Sandy Springs streetscape elements (lighting, brick pavers, and landscaping),” according to a Sandy Springs staff report.

“Additionally, in keeping with the city’s vision for the Roswell Road corridor, a study of proposed median placement and driveway consolidation will also be part of the project.”
