Sandy Springs man indicted in lawyer wife's shooting

A Fulton County Grand Jury on Friday indicted a man on a charge of criminal attempt to commit murder for shooting his wife multiple times in front of their Sandy Springs apartment, the District Attorney's office said.

Michael Darnell Parson, 43, was arrested in May in Texas, one day after police announced an arrest warrant had been issued for him. He was booked May 19 in the Fulton County jail, where he has remained without bond on numerous charges.

Parson is accused of shooting Adina Parson, 40, eight times on the night of April 20 just steps away from the front door of their Morgan Falls apartment, according to police.

Adina Parson, an attorney for the state Department of Public Health, was critically injured, but survived her injuries and continues to recover at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta after spending weeks at Grady Memorial Hospital.

The other charges in Michael Parson's indictment include two counts of aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, District Attorney Paul Howard's office said Friday afternoon. If convicted, Michael Parson could face up to 20 years in prison for each aggravated battery charge.

In the weeks following Michael Parson's arrest, court documents obtained by the AJC revealed the former medical student and military veteran was possibly leading a double life that included being engaged to another woman.

The two were planning an October wedding, the fiancee, Rachel Harner, later told investigators. Michael Parson allegedly told his fiancee that Adina Parson was his aunt, but Harner learned the truth in media reports, according to the search warrant findings.

In the days following the shooting, friends and family members said Michael Parson was at his wife's bedside at Grady. But investigators were suspicious of his story from the night of the shooting, according to court documents.

Michael Parson was arrested May 5 during a traffic stop in Texas and later returned to Georgia.
