Construction has wrapped up a week ahead of schedule at Mount Vernon Highway and Sandy Springs Circle, as the busy downtown Sandy Springs intersection reopened Monday.

The intersection was lowered to improve visibility, and above-ground utilities were buried. Crews continue working to install sidewalks, a traffic signal mast arm and retaining walls. Final lane configuration and turning lanes will be completed in coordination with roadwork around the City Springs city center project.

Though the intersection is open, Mount Vernon remains closed from Sandy Springs Circle to Roswell Road. Mount Vernon is being lowered and widened. Its utilities are being worked on and sidewalks, installed, and Blue Stone Road is being extended. Work is expected to run through this winter.

Additional construction and lane closures also are expected on Sandy Springs Circle.
