The same consulting firm that recruited Sandy Springs City Manager John McDonough to be the new city manager in Greenville, S.C., has been hired by Sandy Springs to find McDonough’s successor for the North Fulton city.

Find Great People, an executive recruiting firm, was selected to help fill the city manager’s post to be vacated by McDonough on Aug. 2.

The consultant began work in late June and is to complete the search by year’s end, officials said. It will be paid a placement fee equal to 22 percent of the accepted candidate’s first-year base salary.

In related action, the Sandy Springs City Council has adopted a resolution naming former Decatur City Manager Peggy Merriss interim city manager. Merriss retired from Decatur last December after serving the city for 35 years, 25 years as manager. She begins her new job in North Fulton on Aug. 2 and will be paid a salary of $17,000 a month through Dec. 31.

“We have a strong senior leadership team who will continue to lead day-to-day operations. The addition of Peggy in the interim city manager role will help ensure consistency across the organization,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul.
