The Sandy Springs Police Department has been given a $70,400 Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T) grant for 2015.

City officials say the money awarded by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety will enable them to develop new strategies to combat highway deaths, injuries and crashes, increase seatbelt usage and educate the public about DUI and traffic safety issues.

The grants are designed to fund specialized traffic enforcement units in Georgia cities and counties with the highest rates of wrecks, injuries and fatalities.
