The Arbor Day Foundation has named Sandy Springs as a Tree City USA for its work to plant and preserve trees.

Michael Barnett of the Big Trees Forest Preserve announced the honor during the city’s proclamation of Georgia Arbor Day celebration on Friday, Feb. 19.

As part of the city’s celebration, an oak was planted in the Big Trees Forest in the name of Harry McEnerny, the husband of city councilwoman Karen Meizen McEnerny, who died last year.
