A storm-damaged, city-owned warehouse in Sandy Springs will be repaired and expanded to create an emergency operations center for field service personnel under a contract approved by the City Council.

The council awarded a $527,949 construction contract to Rubio and Son Interiors Inc. to repair the roof of the warehouse at 7477 Trowbridge Road, and enlarge the building by 3,000 square feet. The cost includes all electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling systems, structural steel, a new slab, additional footings and a storefront, according to a staff report to the council.

In the fall of 2018, the warehouse roof collapsed due to heavy rains, with damage estimated at $93,000, staff said. The city assembled a team to assess the building’s use as an emergency operations center. The team included Hughes Turner and Phillips Associates LLC, the architect that assisted with design documents.

Project plans call for separate female and male bunkrooms with restrooms and showers, a conference room and a break room.
